What is gas oil and why is it red?

gas oil (red dye diesel) and white diesel)Gas oil, which is also commonly referred to as red diesel, is a red dyed diesel fuel. If you’ve ever heard anybody call it red diesel, the name is more descriptive and obvious when you see the colour of the fuel.

However, with many people still referring to it as gas oil, it’s understandable that many people would not have made the connection between the fuels two names. Another reason is likely to be the case that unless you’ve ever worked in the construction or agricultural industries or worked on machinery powered by gas oil. You may never have heard of gas oil.

Gas oil is the same fuel as white diesel which is used on public roads, which you would commonly fill up and buy for cars, vans and lorries from petrol filling stations.

However, unlike the undyed white diesel, red diesel is strictly controlled.

Here at Cooke Fuels, we pride ourselves on offering a first class service when it comes to ordering and delivering red diesel, whether that be a 205-litre barrel, or a bulk order of 500 – 36,000+ litres.
