Biodiesel is used in standard diesel engines. It can be used by itself or together with mineral diesel.
Benefits of using biodiesel
- Almost zero sulphur content
- No odour content
- Energy and power content can be compared
- Catches fire at 150°c compared to 60°c for inorganic diesel
- Extreme reductions in particulates and hydrocarbons
- 70% decrease in carbon monoxide releases
- Biodegradable and harmless
- Lower upkeep cost
Where does biodiesel originate from?
Numerous vegetable oils are used to make biodiesel. These consist of;
Biodiesel can similarly be made from tallow and recycled cooking oils.
Biodiesel is comparable to Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel in power and energy content. It has arisen as an alternate to inorganic diesel as it is perceived as a more green option. It has been the only diesel source through Continental Europe for the past 10 years. But, in the UK the majority of biodiesel is used to blend with inorganic diesel.
The prospect of biodiesel
25% of UK releases are created by the transportation sector. Low carbon oils need to be used to decrease carbon. The Government has acknowledged the part biofuel is going to play in attaining the nation’s goal of zero carbon transportation. This will include transport oil suppliers to upsurge their transactions of renewable oils.
