Home Heating Oil

Kerosene

Kerosene is the most common home heating oil fuel in the UK. It is a colourless, thin mineral oil which has a density between 0.75 and 0.85 grams per cubic centimeter. Extracted through the distillation of crude oil it typically boils off between 150°C and 275°C.

Kerosene has also been extracted from coal, oil shale and wood and is also known as 28-second heating oil.

Gas Oil

Known as 35-second heating oil, it is primarily used in the agriculture and construction industries for heating and powering industrial equipment. However, gas oil is sometimes used to heat some domestic homes depending on the boiler installation
